\nThis winter warmer is Golden Road\u2019s ode to co-founder Meg Gill\u2019s fond Christmas-time memories. Every year Meg\u2019s brother would wait in line for a special holiday beer from a small brewery near their hometown in Virginia \u2013 the coveted centerpiece of family gatherings and celebration. After one such journey to the east coast, Meg returned to L.A. with a few bottles of her beloved brew (unavailable on the West Coast) to share with the Golden Road team. Inspired by Meg\u2019s experience and the tasty stout, Brewmaster Jesse Houck and his team developed a holiday beer worthy of the same love and affection.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Why I selected Golden Road Back Home Gingerbread Stout:
\n<\/strong>Ever looked a gift four-pack in the mouth? I did with Golden Road’s winter release of Back Home Gingerbread Stout. Packaged in a gift box looking like wrapping paper, the box is complete with “To” and “From” boxes to fill in, making an easy $10 gift for your grandma, Meg Gill’s grandma, or even an electric grandma.<\/p>\n

The beer drinks like holiday gingerbread cookies with ginger in the forefront and holiday spices rounding out the finish. Being in LA and currently 82F on Dec 23, the somewhat thinner than expected mouthfeel is not only appreciated, it’s festive. A big thick RIS is not what us Californians like to drink with flip flops, shorts and sunscreen. Back Home Gingerbread Stout is no slouch with the 9.5% ABV; it lets you know it’s in there with a slight alcohol warmth on the way down like a spiked nog. Without the warmth, this beer would be dangerously chuggable. If you’re around horribly annoying relatives or coworker, this beer can numb the pain and have you circling the mistletoe in no time.<\/div>\n

I’m not going to ramble on with some insane review of Golden Road’s Back Home Gingerbread Stout. It’s a nice stout that you can gift to your old aunt Janet, or your grandpa Walter, or even Steve in accounting. It’s a great beer for people new to beer. It’s festive. People like festive.<\/div>\n
