2,000 Runners to Race in Boston\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Annual Harpoon 5-Miler<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The 8th Annual Road Race to Benefit The Angel Fund and ALS Research Reaches Fundraising Milestone<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Boston<\/strong>, MA <\/strong>(June 2, 2009) \u00e2\u20ac\u201c This Saturday, June 6th<\/sup>, 2,000 runners will compete at the 8th<\/sup> Annual Harpoon 5-Miler, a road race to benefit The Angel Fund and ALS Research.\u00c2\u00a0 This year marks a major milestone for the race as the total donation made to the Angel Fund, including previous years\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 donations, will exceed the $200,000 mark.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Harpoon 5-Miler race number has become one of the toughest tickets in town.\u00c2\u00a0 The field of 2,000 runners sold out in less than 20 minutes.\u00c2\u00a0 The racecourse includes a scenic run along the water and beautiful views of both Boston Harbor and the city’s skyline.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, the fresh beer waiting at the finish line doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t hurt the pace either!<\/p>\n

In 2008 the Harpoon 5-Miler, which begins and ends at the Harpoon Brewery in Boston\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Seaport District, raised approximately $60,000 for the Angel Fund and ALS Research.\u00c2\u00a0 This year included, the race has raised more than $200,000 for the cause. ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Disease, is a fatal neurodegenerative disease characterized by muscle weakness and a progressive wasting and paralysis of the muscles.\u00c2\u00a0 This cause holds special significance for the brewery as Harpoon lost Gordon Heald, a founding investor, to ALS in 1997.<\/p>\n

The race will be followed by a post-race party under the tents of Harpoon Summer Session, a two-day celebration of live music and local beer.\u00c2\u00a0 Runners are invited to celebrate the completion of the race with Harpoon beers, Harpoon Draft Sodas, and food provided by a local restaurant.<\/p>\n
