RED TROLLEY ALE TAKES GOLD AT WORLD BEER CUP<\/strong>

San Diego, CA \u2013 April 2010<\/strong> \u2013 Karl Strauss Brewing Company was awarded the gold medal <\/strong>for their Red Trolley Ale at the Brewers Association World Beer Cup 2010<\/strong>. The competition is one of the industry\u2019s most prestigious and recognized awards, with more than 3,401 entries from 642 <\/strong>breweries in 44 countries.<\/p>\n

Red Trolley Ale beat out Sam Adam\u2019s Irish Red and Rock Bottom\u2019s Rag Top Red to take the gold in the Irish Red Ale category. Originally brewed as the company\u2019s first holiday beer, Red Trolley is now Karl Strauss\u2019 best-selling draft brand. Brewed with copious amounts of caramel malt, Red Trolley Ale has a rich toffee flavor with hints of dark fruit.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve always loved this beer,\u201d says Paul Segura, Brewmaster, \u201cand it\u2019s great to see Red Trolley recognized by our peers.\u201d The World Beer Cup winners were selected by an international panel of 179 beer judges from 27 countries. The winners were announced during the World Beer Cup Gala Awards Dinner at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers in Chicago to coincide with the Craft Brewers Conference.<\/p>\n

KARL STRAUSS BIG BARREL DOUBLE IPA IS BACK<\/strong>

San Diego, CA \u2013 April 2010<\/strong> – After the successful launch of Big Barrel Double IPA last October, Karl Strauss fans have been clamoring for more. As the first installment of the company\u2019s 22oz Coastal Reserve Series, Big Barrel allowed people to experience the edgier side of Karl Strauss\u2019 beer offerings. The spring version of Big Barrel will hit shelves across Southern California in early April.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great to see people respond so positively to Big Barrel. This is a huge, hoppy beer with a quickly growing fan base,\u201d says Brewmaster Paul Segura. Big Barrel Double IPA has earned a loyal following with solid \u201cA\u201d scores on popular beer rating websites BeerAdvocate.com and Ratebeer.com.<\/p>\n

Big Barrel is a bold double IPA characterized by the use of New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops, known for their tropical fruit flavor and aroma. \u201cIt is interesting to see how the hop character changes with each batch we brew. Hop varietals can vary based on weather and soil conditions and this batch leans more towards an earthy fruitiness,\u201d says Paul. The finished beer has an intensely hoppy nose with hints of mango, pine, grapefruit, and orange.<\/p>\n

Big Barrel Double IPA comes in at 9.0% ABV and over 90 IBUS. A blend of Marris Otter and Caramel malts provide the perfect balance to the bitterness. Fermented with Chico yeast, this beer finishes smooth and dry with a pleasant, fruity bitterness.<\/p>\n

A limited run of Big Barrel Double IPA will be available in 22oz bottles and on draft across Southern California in early April.
