Ten  breweries were recognized among the top 10\u00a0based on the number of medals earned. Deschutes Brewing of Bend, Oregon was named Grand National Champion  while  \tSprecher Brewing of Glendale, Wisconsin and the Boston Beer finished  second and third respectively. Sixty-two individual breweries won at least one medal, and 14 won two medals or more.\u00a0 Phil Ferrall of Cumming, Ga. was  the only homebrewer to win a gold medal. His homebrew, The Next to Last  King of Scotland Ale, won the Strong Scotch Ale category.<br \/> <strong><br \/> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">2009 United States Open Championship\u2019s Top Ten Breweries<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li> Deschutes Brewing \u2013 Bend, Oregon <\/li>\n<li> Sprecher Brewing \u2013 Glendale, Wisconsin <\/li>\n<li> Boston Beer Company \u2013 Boston, Massachuetts <\/li>\n<li> August Schell Brewing \u2013 New Ulm, Minnesota <\/li>\n<li> Maui Brewing \u2013 Maui, Hawaii <\/li>\n<li> Anderson Valley Brewing \u2013 Boonville, California <\/li>\n<li> Terrapin Beer Company \u2013 Athens, Georgia <\/li>\n<li> Tallgrass Brewing \u2013 Manhattan, Kansas <\/li>\n<li> Atlanta Brewing \u2013 Atlanta, Georgia <\/li>\n<li> Sweetwater Brewing \u2013 Atlanta, Georgia<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Call for Entries Begin June 8, 2010<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The call for entries for the United States Open Beer Championships will begin June 8, with the entry deadline set for June 18.\u00a0 Winners will be  announced July 4.\u00a0 Each brewery may enter a maximum of 10 beers. In  order to  \thelp small brewers in these tough economic times, each brewery will be allowed to enter 2 beers with no entry fee. If a brewery wishes to  enter  \tmore than two beers, there will be a $50 entry fee per beer.\u00a0 A brewery  must submit a minimum of five beers to be qualified to win one of the \u201cTop  Ten  \tBreweries\u201d.\u00a0 Entry forms and rules can found on the competitions Web  site at <a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.usopenbeer.com\/index.php\/pages\/USOpenRegistration.html');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.usopenbeer.com\/index.php\/pages\/USOpenRegistration.html\" target=\"_blank\"> U.S. Open  Registration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More than 50 categories will be judged. Winners will receive a medal in  the shape of a beer stein for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
