It was about 40 degrees, but we were determined not to let the weather effect our fun day. The train ride to Boston was about 70 minutes, so gave us some time to chill out and surf the web.

After arriving to Boston, our first stop was food. Because we had a long day ahead of us, we stopped at the Purple Shamrock to carb load with a yummy breakfast. The Purple Shamrock is located near Fanueil Hall marketplace in Boston. It was about a 10 min walk from the train station and the perfect place to stop on our way through the city.

After eating breakfast, we put on our walking shoes and headed towards the park plaza. We got there early, so we traveled via financial district > downtown crossing > China town > Theatre District. It may sound like a long trip, but there is nothing better than walking around Boston on a brisk fall day.

The Beer Summit was held at the Park Plaza Castle. We were there early so we roamed around and visited with some of our friends from the Haverhill Tap, Cape Ann, Ipswich, Brooklyn, Woodchuck, and Shipyard breweries. Hagan, one of our friends from the 2010 Beer Bloggers Conference (#bbc10), met us there. He is starting a new blog named “I Taste Your Beer”. This was his first time to the beer summit. After getting our wristbands, and our 5 oz plastic beer mugs it was time to sample some of the fantastic beers offered.

The hall was lined with breweries around the edge and a group of breweries in the middle of the room. Food was set up at the front of the room. We were impressed with how easy it was to navigate around the room. Some of our favorite beers of the evening include, Innis and Gunn’s Oak Aged Beer.

Odley enough, a friend recently recommended their beer to me. It think it was fate that John Freeman (brand manager) was there teach us about his company. Located in Edinburgh, Scotland (one of my favorite places on earth), Innis and Gunn brew their beer, then age it in a bourbon and rum barrels. The beer was so tasty and smooth. At 6.6% alcohol, the oaked aged beer was so smooth and well balanced. We will definitely be searching out for their beer in our local store.

Other notable beers include, Eisbock from Redhook, Santa Beered from Cisco, the Brooklyn Winter (I think), and the Clipper City Loose Cannon Hop 3. All and all, we sampled many different beers and talked to many great people. If you haven’t been to the Beer Summit, we recommend putting this on your to do list for 2011.

For additional information about events next year, please visit: http://www.beersummit.com/

Enjoy,

Sean
2Beerguys.com

Drink Craft Beer, You’ve Earned It!!!

p.s.
