{"id":520,"date":"2008-08-15T08:13:16","date_gmt":"2008-08-15T12:13:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.2beerguys.com\/blog\/?p=520"},"modified":"2008-08-15T08:13:16","modified_gmt":"2008-08-15T12:13:16","slug":"molson-brews-up-ethanol-for-2008-dem-convention-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/2beerguys.com\/blog\/2008\/08\/15\/molson-brews-up-ethanol-for-2008-dem-convention-vehicles\/","title":{"rendered":"Molson Brews Up Ethanol For 2008 Dem Convention Vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>This article surfaced a couple of months ago, but it&#8217;s still interesting enough to share.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sean<br \/>\n2Beerguys.com<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.environmentalleader.com\/wp-content\/thumbs\/molson-brews-up-6258.jpg\" alt=\"molson-brews-up-6258.jpg\" align=\"left\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Molson Brews Up Ethanol For 2008 Dem Convention Vehicles<\/p>\n<p>Molson Coors, which began converting waste beer to ethanol in 1996, produces about 3 million gallons of ethanol per year, will donate thousands of gallons of E85, an ethanol-gasoline fuel blend, worth an estimated $40,000 \u00e2\u20ac\u201d to fuel the General Motors flex-fuel vehicles that will provide the transportation needs for the Denver 2008 Democratic Convention.<\/p>\n<p>The 85-percent ethanol and 15-percent gasoline from Molson differs from the more common corn-based variety in that it is made from beer lost during packaging or rejected for quality reasons at the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s brewery in Golden, Colo.<\/p>\n<p>Molson is purchasing the ethanol from Merrick &amp; Co., which, under a 15-year agreement crafted in 2005, leases land from Coors, buys the residuals from the brewer and makes the ethanol at a plant next to Coors brewery in Golden.<\/p>\n<p>In December Coors said it plans to reduce its total greenhouse gas emissions by 12 percent by 2010.<\/p>\n<p><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.environmentalleader.com\/2008\/05\/23\/molson-brews-up-ethanol-for-2008-dem-convention-vehicles\/');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.environmentalleader.com\/2008\/05\/23\/molson-brews-up-ethanol-for-2008-dem-convention-vehicles\/\">Link to original article.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article surfaced a couple of months ago, but it&#8217;s still interesting enough to share.
