Rauchbier

Review - The Matt Brewing Company's Saranac Rauchbier

"Perfect for drinking around a crackling fire, this malty German style Lager is brewed with Bamberg smoked malt using only the best German hops and traditional lager yeast. Look for a smooth malty flavor with a hint of smoke in the finish." -- The Matt Brewing Company

Pours a cloudy light yellow, settling into a clear, still, light yellow body with a large, frothy off-white head with excellent retention. Aroma is of dough yeast and light bread malts with a slight astringent aroma. Initial taste is smoky, leading to a slight sweet finish with a smooth end. Medium bodied, it has a creamy texture with very little carbonation.
