Caramel Porter

Review - The Matt Brewing Company's Saranac Caramel Porter

"Saranac Caramel Porter is a robust, flavorful porter reminiscent of a by-gone era. True to brewing tradition, we've used dark caramel malt as well as Fuggles & East Kent Goldings hops for a smooth, yet slightly bitter, roasted flavor. Look for hints of real caramel used in brewing this delicious brew. Enjoy." -- The Matt Brewing Company

Before the pour is even complete, we're hit by a heavy hit of melted caramels and butterscotch. Pours into the glass with a medium to dark brown color with a small, fizzy, light-brown head. Aroma is heavily sweet, literally smelling like melted caramel candies. Initial taste is lightly sweet, curbing up to a moderately sweet finish with short duration. Light bodied, it has a watery texture with soft carbonation.
