Weasel Wheat

Review - Woodstock Inn Brewery's White Mountain Raspberry Weasel Wheat Ale

"Raspberry wheat, our summer ale, is a light and refreshing, blonde wheat ale that has the essence of raspberry in each sip. This version of Weasel Wheat helps beer drinkers stay cool on hot summer afternoons. Raspberry Weasel Wheat is available sometime in June." -- Woodstock Inn Brewery

Pours a medium yellow color with a clear hue with a fairly solid two-finger off-white head, rejuvenated by an active carbonation that contributes to a mostly lasting head but, due to the light body, it has watery lacing that slides off the glass as it moves. The aroma is a bouquet of sour raspberry notes with straw undertones, but isn't backed up by much else. The first taste provides a creamy, slightly bitter wheat taste and not until later do the raspberries reveal themselves, carried by a sweet, almost velvety texture that also illuminates the tongue with its active carbonation. Surprisingly creamy in body for a summer seasonal, its almost too heavy to be refreshing and doesn't quite hit the mark as a summer beer. However, disregarding that fact, its a very enjoyable ale with a nice fruit aroma.
