Summer Weizen

Review - Smuttynose Brewing Company's Summer Weizen Ale

"Light, tasty & full of character, our summer wheat ale is brewed with a combination of domestic and continental wheat and barley malts, lightly hopped & fermented with a Belgian wit yeast, resulting in a delightfully tangy & refreshing flavor. This beer is brewed for warm weather enjoyment. Bring some to your next picnic, barbeque or Frisbee game." -- Smuttynose Brewing Company

The Summer Weizen pours a cloudy light yellow color and settles into a thin light yellow body. The body was very active with swirls of carbonation in the glass. Initially, the white frothy head was rather large in size, but fully diminished in an average amount of time. The nose detected light malt aromas with hints of hay and straw with a slight fruity presence. The initial light sweet taste became slightly bitter taste that becomes moderately bitter for the finish. It is malty and contained a light lemon presence, but not as lemony as other summer offerings. The softly carbonated, light creamy body, and left the palate feeling "chewy". This beer is included in the Smuttynose summer variety pack. Comments: "Pretty good for a summer beer", "It's very smooth, refreshing and clean" - Ian.
