Review - Founders Brewing Company's Reds Rye
"Pours a spectacular crimson red with a creamy tan head. Brewed with four varieties of Belgian caramel malts imparting a sweet richness. Reds Rye is impressively balanced with its hop bitterness and floral bouquet achieved from the dry hop. In the finish, the generous amount of malted rye used accentuates a spicy crisp finish." -- Founders Brewing
The pour gives a medium caramel to deep red color with a very chunky tan colored head with phenomenal retention and super sticky lacing. The aroma has a superb hop presence with awesome flowery notes, with a very strong, in-your-face attitude. The first sip is a heavy bitter, although not in the same way that a highly bitter IPA hits you. The rye balances out the bitterness while retaining the hop taste, leaving a very pleasant, drinkable beer. It finishes with a slightly sweet, yet still bitter finish with a nice, creamy mouthfeel. Medium bodied, we're left feeling a bit dry but mostly smooth.
