Review - Portsmouth Brewery's Barleywine
No commercial description available.
The Portsmouth Barleywine pours a ruby red color body with a small fizzy light brown head which remains fairly still throughout the pour. The body was clear and still. The dominant sweet malt aroma was in your face with alcohol. We were reminded of twizzlers and ribbon candy. The supersweet initial taste walloped our palate and slowly evolved into a bitter dry finish. The dominant alcohol presence takes control of the palate as it leaves a dry slightly oily alcohol burn on our mouth. Drinks like a liquor, such as a whiskey or bourbon.
