Old Blarney

Review - Moylan's Brewery & Restaurant's Old Blarney

"Our Barleywine is a rich and heavy ale brewed to a high gravity. Massive body, mouthfeel and hoppiness." -- Moylans

Still recovering from the Hopsickle, my expectations of the Old Blarney Barleywine were set high. The Old Blarney pours a hazy medium amber body, topped off by a light brown/orange fizzy head. The layer of foam left a good amount of lacing on the glass. The nose detected a strong malt presence with a moderate alcohol presence. The initial sweet alcohol taste moved slowly into the light bitter finish. While lasting for a long duration, the alcohol presence was easily detected. Light in body, the oily film left a dry presence on the mouth.

This Barleywine was true in style, but rather unbalanced with a dominant sweet alcohol taste.
