Review - Coastal Extreme Brewing Co.'s Newport Storm Winter Ale
"A full bodied, dark porter with a profound toasted flavor balanced with ample hopping. Dedicated to the Blizzard of 1978, this porter is perfect for a winter day. A hint of roasted chocolate and a spicy aftertaste warm the soul of this brew." -- Coastal Extreme Brewing Co.
Pours a dark caramel color with an average, light brown fizzy head with thin fizzy lacing. Having settled out a bit, the body has taken on a slightly red hue as the head has mostly dissipated down to nothing. The aroma is full of sweet caramel notes, such as Brach's caramel squares. Malty undertones deliver the aroma with soft bread notes. Initial taste is smokey with a light sweetness, and the finish rounds out with a slight bitterness. Light bodied, it has a watery texture with a dry mouthfeel. Gentle carbonation. Nice drinkable porter, sweet aroma doesn't translate into the taste, as the taste is bitter but enjoyable.
