Ellies Brown

Review - Avery Brewing Company's Ellies Brown Ale

"This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Averys late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that is second to none, just like Ellie!" -- Avery Brewing

Pours a dark brown color with a nice two finger creamy chunky head with a thin body but murky clarity. Settles out to a reddish-brown color and the head leaves some nice sticky lacing on the glass. Aroma is very faint with perhaps a bit of malt but hard to pick much up more than roasted peanuts. Initial taste is slightly sweet, building to an even more sweet finish where the nutty characteristics come out. Light to medium bodied, there's a nutty feel in the mouth with some nice creaminess in the texture.
