Review - Hoppin Frog Brewery's Smashin Berry Ale
"Introducing new Smashing Berry Ale! It's rich and complex, with an assertive, satisfying berry character - more than most fruit beers" --Hoppin Frog Brewery
Pours white out of the bottle, settling a pear-colored hue with a crisp white fizzy head that quickly diminishes. Body is slightly hazy, and has the appearance of white grape juice. The aroma is jumping out of the glass with very strong raspberry notes, reminding us of Bubbalicious gum. Once we actually get our noses in there, we get a slightly soapy/yeasty aroma but the berry scent dominates. Initial taste is very sweet, a bit too much so even for a fruit beer. It drinks more like a carbonated juice than a beer. Light bodied, it has some qualities of a cherry coughdrop with some medicinal properties, it's lightly oily on the mouth and leaves us a bit dry on the finish.
