Review - Hoppin Frog Brewery's Bodacious Black & Tan
"Our IPA and Stout converge for a really great flavor combination to create a rich and robust black & tan. The assertive hoppy character of our Hoppin to Heaven IPA is perfectly complimented by the intense deep roasted flavor of our BORIS Oatmeal Imperial Stout. Two great tastes that taste even better together." -- Hoppin Frog
Pours a gorgeous rich brown caramel color producing a massive, fizzy, light-brown head with decent retention. Body is thick and opaque with a deep brown hue. Head holds up well with some nice wispy lacing on the glass. Aroma is interesting here...with the blend of the IPA and the Stout, we\'re getting some subtle coffee aromas from the stout without getting much of the hoppiness from the IPA. Initial taste puts the IPA on display with some nice citrusy hoppiness up front, and as the taste matures, we get some of the stout with some nice subtle coffee bitterness, so we're getting at once hop and coffee bitterness which is very disorienting (not in a bad way). Medium bodied, there is a watery texture with a stout-like finish, but it\'s an IPA up front with active carbonation.
