Black Marlin

Review - Ballast Point Brewing Company's Black Marlin Porter

"Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter is a rich dark chocolaty Porter with a distinctive American hop character. It is nitrogen dispensed which gives it a creamy texture, thick head and a balanced flavor that is reminiscent of traditional British cask conditioned ales. It is a great beer to go with hearty foods and is surprisingly one of the few beers that goes well with dessert. " -- North Coast Brewing

Pours a dark chocolate color with a reddish brown opaque body that produces an average light-brown head. Very thin lacing leaves very spotty fizz on the glass. Body allows a bit of light through, but is mostly opaque. Aroma is yeasty with some soapy notes, burnt malts with coffee notes, and a bit of sour milk. Initial taste has a creamy sweetness to it that stays steadily sweet with some bitterness introduced at the end. Medium bodied with a creamy more than chalky mouthfeel, it\'s well-balanced and very drinkable with some burnt malts in the finish taste and some sweet chocolate.
