Review - Shipyard Brewing Company's Brewers Choice 2008 Royal IPA
No commercial description
Pours a medium yellow color, settling medium amber, with a cloudy body producing a large frothy off-white head with excellent retention. Aroma is full of dry, grassy, earthy hop notes with some supporting malt character. The hops also come through with some grapefruit sourness. Initial taste has a gentle bitterness that intensifies as it flows back over the tongue, although clearly representative of a British vs American IPA. The finish isn\'t overly dry or bitter, leaving just a nice reminder that hops were used in the brew. Light to medium bodied, it has active carbonation and a slightly sour finish that is tangy on the tongue.
We had cellared this beer for about a year. It came out at the beginning of 2008 or end of 2007. Very interesting, not a typical craft beer style.
