Review - Arcadia Brewing Company's Hopmouth Double IPA
"The first in our Brew Crew Big Beer Series, Arcadia HopMouth Double IPA is a tasty fix for your hop jones. Huge Maris Otter Malt and a more than generous amount of fresh hops make this beer memorable." -- Arcadia Brewing Company
Pours a dark yellow to light amber color producing a large, frothy off-white head with excellent retention. Body is hazy. Strong, sticky lacing clings to the glass, and the body has remained hazy. Aroma is of moderately strong hop notes with intense grapefruit overtones. Very inviting with the malty, sweet, maple sugar undertones. Initial taste is moderately bitter with some very nice orange citrus hop notes, finishing slightly bitter with some chewy malts for a nice strong close. Moderately malty mouthfeel, sweet, with a soft bitter presence. Active carbonation with light to medium bodied leaving a creamy, oily film.
Hop presence is a little stronger than other double IPA\'s. It is not overpowering, but seems more like a straight IPA and not a double. It is very tasty.
