Long Trail Coffee Stout

Review - Long Trail Brewing Company's Brewmaster Series Coffee Stout

"Long Trail Coffee Stout is made in cooperation with the Vermont Coffee Company using 100% certified fair trade, organic coffee. Brewed with their freshest, Dark Roast coffee, Long Trail Coffee Stout offers a rich coffee flavor complimented by a beautiful full head. The beer is modeled after an award-winning homebrew recipe from one of Long Trail's own staff - sure to be a hit amount craft beer enthusiasts." -- Long Trail Brewing Company

Pours a dark brown color with a quickly dissipating tan colored head with a fizzy texture. Head has completely broken up. Thin wispy lacing clings to the glass. Still body with a tar black hue. Roasty, toasty coffee malts dominant the aroma. It is an very inviting aroma, makes your mouth water, just thinking about it. Hops were impossible to detect, as expected. Initial taste is moderately sweet with some slight coffee undertones, and moving towards the finish, the coffee intensity picks up along with the alcohol warmth. Bitterness from the coffee comes through. The Long Trail coffee stout is thin/light bodied and slightly watery. The coffee notes leave a soft bitter finish, which slightly dries out mouth. The lightness in body makes this beer closer to a porter than a stout.

The coffee is clear and present, but doesn't fully dominate the flavor. It is smooth and very drinkable.
