Review - Otter Creek Brewing Co.'s Wolavers Oatmeal Stout
"This full flavored stout imparts hints of coffee, chocolate, and roasted flavors. It is brewed with an ample supply of locally grown organic rolled oats." -- Wolavers
Pours a dark caramel color with a minimal head with a light brown fizzy consistency. Body activity is very low and the lacing is wispy thin with some tiny bubbles. The nose is immediately perked up with a roasted, toasty malt presence. From what it lacks in appearance, it excels in aroma. The chocolate, roasted malts are very inviting. Initial taste is chock full of roasted malts with a slight burnt characteristic that leaves a delicious flavor behind. Finish flavor has lingering roasted malts with a nice sweetness that lingers. Softly carbonated and light in body, the Oatmeal stout is rater thin and watery. It leaves a slightly burnt feeling on your palate. Your mouth is left in a pleasant state, but the burnt coffee sticks around for a long duration.
Surprisingly clear body for an oatmeal stout, we certainly would expect a much more dense body. It drinks more like a porter than a stout.
