Review - Laughing Dog Brewing Company's Crotch Sniffing Bastard
"Hey, what can we say? Dogs do like to sniff down there. A British style ESB with the Laughing Dog twist. It's clean and smooth, the way an ESB should be. Silver Medal NABA." -- Laughing Dog Brewing
Pours a light amber color with a pillowy off-white frothy head with great retention. Body clarity is brilliant with some slight carbonation. Full tacky lacing clings behind the slowly diminishing head. Initially, a soft yeasty - earthy aroma emits from the glass. A moderate amounts of malts were detected, with a light fruity - green apple presence. A soft earthy hop presence was also detected. Initial taste is loaded with bready malts, and towards the finish it is slightly bitter with some lingering caramel sweetness. Softly carbonated and light to medium in body, the CSB is smooth and very drinkable. The earthy hop presence creates a slightly chewy texture. The alcohol presence was soft and not very noticeable. Our palates were left slightly dry from the hops.
Not only is it an interesting name, but the CSB is a complex ESB - a unique combination of doughy malts and earthy hops. The caramel sweetness and the musty hops provide a playful pairing that create a unique flavor.
