Review - Avery Brewing Company's Joes Premium American Pilsner
"A contemporary rendition of a classic style, Joe's is hopped with purpose: beautifully bitter and dry with an abundance of floral, Noble German hops. Uber sessionable. Utterly American. This is Premiuim American Pilsner.." -- Avery Brewing
Pours a bright pale yellow hue with a voluminous white frothy head with excellent retention. Lacing is thin and watery without much grip. Body clarity is brilliant. Moderate levels of carbonation. The initial aroma consisted of a light bready aroma. The hop presence was subtle and slightly earthy. There were no noticeable presence of alcohol or diacetly. There was a nice fruity - apple like aroma - very faint. Initial taste is slightly tart with some surprising levels of acidity and bitterness with a piney resinous flavor. The finish flavor is all bitterness with a sharp bite with lasting duration. Light in body and watery, but very smooth. The tart finish left our mouths puckering, while the hops dryed out our mouths - over a long duration. The alcohol presence was not noticeable and well masked by the hops/malts. With few expectations going in based on the style, this was a pleasant surprise. The hop levels give a sharp bite with a tremendous drying characteristic, all the while remaining very refreshing and light. High drinkability here with a nice bitter finish make it a winner.
