Review - Dogfish Head Brewery's Chicory Stout
"A dark beer made with a touch of roasted chicory, organic Mexican coffee, St. John's Wort, and licorice root. Brewed with whole-leaf Cascade and Fuggles hops, the grains include pale, roasted & oatmeal." -- Dogfish Head Brewery
This stout pours as expected with a dark brown body topped off by a caramel-colored, average fizzy head. A fully-diminishing head leaves no lacing behind. The body is sparkling and surprisingly clear. Aromas are of moderate toasted malts and soy sauce. Initial flavor is a barely a light sweet, mellowing to a bland finish with a long duration. Light to medium on the mouth, it is overly watery for this style of beer, with fizzy carbonation and a chalky mouthfeel.
Reviewer's notes: "Toasted malt presence on the palate, dark beer but not thick body, not a liquid meal"
