Harpoon Summer

Review - Harpoon Brewery's Summer Beer

"This is a beer brewed to be enjoyed with summertime activities. It is light, refreshing, and crisp.

Harpoon Summer Beer is a Kolsch style ale. Originating in the Rhineland city of Cologne (Koln), Kolsch ales have the characteristics that many people associate with lager beers. Kolsch is brewed with an ale yeast, but like other northern German light ales, it is straw gold in color and light bodied. The flavor is mild. The hopping levels provide a crisp, dry finish that make this beer particulary refreshing.

The traditional serving style is in small, straight glasses which are constantly circulated among the tables in Koln’s beer halls. This beer goes well with a wide variety of foods, including delicate dishes such as salads and seafood." -- Harpoon Brewery

The third in our summer lineup, this pours a cloudy white, settling a clear, light yellow. Average, fizzy white head. Fair lacing left behind by a fully diminishing head. Aroma is of citrus and lemon hops with a light yeast scent. Initial taste was lightly acidic, turning to a light bitter finish with average duration. Light on the palate, it has a watery consistency with soft carbonation. We didn't find this to have a very distinct aroma, yet this is a beer that we wait for all winter to enjoy on a hot summer day.
