Review - Left Hand Brewery's Chainsaw Ale - Double Sawtooth

"Our latest offering attempts to address an old saying that has plagued mankind since its inception. Many times we've heard, "more is not always better". Invariably the person on the receiving end of such a statement scowls at the ramifications. Here at Left Hand we realize that life cannot be reduced to or understood in absolute terms. Our latest addition to our lineup attempts to take exception with such broad statements about the human condition. Chainsaw is a connoisseur version of our award-winning Sawtooth Ale, designed to befuddle silly generalizations about life. We hope you enjoy!" -- Left Hand Brewing

I've had the Chainsaw sitting around for a while, waiting for us to finish the 100th. I was anticipating this one, as we've greatly enjoyed everything we've had from Left Hand. The Chainsaw did not disappoint. Weighing in at 9% abv, and sandwiched in between two other ass-kickers, we were setting ourselves up for a warm evening. For all that it does well, the Chainsaw fails to make a strong impression on the nose. After opening the bottle and pouring our glasses, we were hard-pressed to pick up any distinguishable aromas. We eventually got a hint of sweet hops, but that was about all. The pour was a medium brown to dark amber with a small, off-white head. Good lacing over a murky body. Bottle conditioned ale. Initial flavor is spectacularly sweet with a good duration before turning over to light bitter at the finish. Creamy on the palate, we were quite happy with this one by the end.
