Review - Magic Hat Brewing Company's Circus Boy Hefeweizen

"Is he a who? Or a what? Or perhaps some of both? No one knows for he only travels under heavy clouds of night...Away from his cage he sometimes appears in the distance causing mischief to those around him.

Unfiltered and Unfettered. Circus Boy is a unique and refreshing American-style hefeweizen. HE'S ALIVE!" --Magic Hat Brewing Co.

As fans of hefeweizens, we were less than charmed by the Circus Boy act. What it does well is smell and look good. Unfortunately, those aren't enough to mask the weak, neutral taste and less than desirable mouthfeel. It pours a cloudy medium yellow color with a hazy body, crowned by a nice, frothy head. Aromas are of lemon and soap. Where this beer falls is that the soap aroma carries into the taste, as it is lightly sweet at first, and finishes lightly acidic with a soap aftertaste. Light to medium on the mouth, it leaves an oily finish we were not overly pleased with from this style of beer. Metallic feel at the end.
