Review - Magic Hat Brewing Company's Saint Gootz (originally Batch 371)

"Ludwidicus Gootz, a 14th century farmer with an unnatural thirst, concocted an ale born of deep snow and whirling winds in his Germanic homeland. Shunned by the brotherhood of monks, Gootz took it upon himself to spread this heavenly beer throughout the land. Upon his death, Gootz revelers rose up and demanded his induction into the Sainthood...and hence his ale became known as Saint Gootz. Six centuries later, Todd Haire, Magic Hat's head brewer discovered the recipe for this "Blessed Dark Wheat Ale" inscribed onto an old chalis. He proudly brewed it for all modern revelers to enjoy." -- Magic Hat

Saint Gootz provides a healthy dose of heavy malts in the form of molasses. Moderate yeast aroma comes from a soap scent. It pours a medium brown color with a muddy body, covered by a (initially) massive fizzy, light brown head that mostly diminishes. There is virtually no lacing. Initial flavor is lightly acidic, with a moderate turn to sweet at the finish. Well noted that this is a malty beer. Light to medium on the mouth, it left us watery with soft carbonation and a chalky feel.
