Black and Tan

Review - The Matt Brewing Company's Saranac Black and Tan

"A beer lover's dream! This classic irish stout and amber lager blend is malty, yet pleasantly bitter with many complex flavor notes. Look for a deep brown-black color and full-body." -- The Matt Brewing Company

As expected, this was not quite up to par with the traditional Black and Tan consisting of Guiness and Smithwicks. It pours a dark amber to brown color with a creamy brown head. Good lacing, behind a fully diminishing head. Body is almost clear. Aroma is of moderate strength malts, with a burnt characteristic. Rock candy and cocoa malts also appear on the nose. Initial taste is lightly sweet with a lightly acidic finish. Average duration. Moderately carbonated, its between oily and creamy on the mouth, medium to thin body, with a burnt taste. Doesn't jump up and grab me with aroma, Amber found it to be weak.
