Review - Offshore Brewing Company's Laughing Laird '06
"Scotch Ales, also known as Wee Heavy, are a bold, malty, and full-bodied bunch. Our version is rather sweet with notes of caramelized sugar and barely burnt malt. There is also a very subtle note of smoke from the Peat Malt used in the brewing process. The alcoholic aroma and flavor is apparent but not overpowering. Take heed...this beer packs a punch. Please enjoy in moderation." -- Offshore Brewing
There isn't anyone laughing at this selection. Not only does the Laughing Laird smell amazing, the taste creates a party in your mouth. It pours a clear, dark amber with a medium light brown head. Mostly lasting head with excellent aroma. This beer does not let you down. Heavy sweet malt aroma that is inviting to the nose with hints of cookies. Initially heavy sweet taste followed by a moderately sweet taste for an average duration. Lively carbonation with a medium creamy body with an alcohol feel. The alcohol is not hidden in this beer. From the aroma through the taste, it doesn't hide that it's an ass-kicker. 36 IBU's.
