Review - Old Dominion Brewing Co.'s Tupper's Hop Pocket Ale
"Bob and Ellie Tupper (of Washington D.C.'s Brickskeller tasting fame) in conjunction with Ron Barchet and John Mallett (former Old Dominion brewmasters) designed Tuppers' Hop Pocket Ale at the Tuppers' dining room table by tasting a tableful of beers. Tuppers' Hop Pocket Ale is full-bodied and very hoppy (about 60 IBU's). It is dry hopped with whole leaf Mount Hood and Cascade hops and krausened (fermented) in the keg and bottle. This ale is designed by skilled beer drinkers for experienced beer drinkers. Tuppers' Hop Pocket Ale won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 1997. Widely available in bottles and on draught." -- Old Dominion Brewing
This is a solid, hoppy beer. It pours a cloudy light amber color, settling a darker medium amber hue with a white crown. Fully diminishing over a hazy body with no lacing. Aroma is strictly perfume hops. Initially, it is lightly bitter, but it cranks up to a sharp bitter finish with a long duration which is much appreciated. Thin bodied, it has a dry texture and soft carbonation.
