Review - Portsmouth Brewery's Cream Ale
"Cream Ale (first brewed 1994; occasional release). This unfiltered ale is golden in color, medium light in body and moderate in the hop character. Cream ale is made by using ale yeast fermented at colder temperatures (like a lager). The colder ferment causes a slower, more gradual fermentation and a smoother flavor with only a very subtle fruity flavor. Cream ale is a hybrid style; it has traits of both ale and lager." -- Portsmouth Brewery
Pours a light yellow color with an off-white, fizzy head. Settles a medium yellow color, active body, with good lacing. Aroma is of sweet malts, as well as a doughy yeast scent. Fairly straightforward on the nose. Initial taste is moderately sweet, but quickly shifts to a light bitter taste with short duration. Light bodied, it has a watery texture with soft carbonation.
