Review - Redhook Brewery's Blackjack Porter
"The differences are: The yeast, the malts, the hops, the alcohol levels, one was a 100 bl batch and one was a 7 bl batch, one was aged on American Oak(Black Jack) and one wasn’t, one was filtered and one wasn’t(Porters Porter), one was a step infusion mash (Black Jack) one was a single temperate infusion mash (Porters Porter)." -- Steve Schmidt, Lead Brewer, Redhook Ale Brewery, Portsmouth, as posted on BeerAdvocate.com
Pours a deep mahogany color into a murky body with a creamy, tan head. Mostly diminishing as it is poured from a growler. Fair lacing. Aroma is of burnt malts, with hints of coffee. Initial taste is moderately bitter, mellowing to a smooth, light bitter finish. Light to medium in body, it has a dry texture with soft carbonation.
Almost the consistency of flat soda. Very drinkable and balanced.
