The Poet

Review - New Holland Brewing Company's The Poet

"This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you'll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions." -- New Holland Brewing Company

Pours a dark chocolate color with reddish undertones like auburn into a murky body, topped off by a frothy, good-sized head with excellent retention. Aroma is of mild roasted coffee, hazelnut, with milk chocolate up front that has mellowed out as it sits in the glass. Initial taste is a light sweet up front with a watery texture, but it quickly shifts to creamy texture with a mild bitter finish, like a velvety Jimi Hendrix poster...or a milkshake. Light to medium bodied, it has mild carbonation on the tongue with a velvety texture.
