Review - Moylans Brewery & Restaurant's Ryan O'Sullvan's Imperial Stout
"Originally brewed to withstand the long voyage from London to Czarist Russia, Imperial Stouts are rich, thick and intense. Named in honor of our St. Patrick’s Day Piper, Ryan O’Sullivan’s Imperial Stout brings chocolate truffles, espresso coffe, burnt currants and the sweetness of sherry to mind. This is the classic “Cigar Stout”." -- Moylans
Pours into a deep, dark black body with a healthy, two-finger light brown creamy head with good retention. Good lacing that leaves a very sticky, foamy residue on the glass. Aroma is of coffee, a slight alcohol presence, a weaker malt presence, and bitter chocolate. First taste is a quick hit of moderate sweetness, giving way to a moderately bitter finish that closes out with a chocolate taste. Mouthfeel is creamy and oily, with chocolate residues. Well-balanced in its malt and alcohol profiles, this is a very enjoyable stout that pairs equally well with a rich Belgian chocolate or Dunkin Donuts coffee.
