Review - Milly's Tavern's Tennessee TNT
"Our T.N.T, Barleywine aged for one year in a Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey barrel." -- Milly's Tavern
Milly's TNT Barleywine poured a murky dark amber body, which was topped with a small white fizzy head. The thin layer of foam quickly diminished without leaving any presence on the glass. The body appeared rather thin and watery. Upon the first sniff, the nose was immediately surprised with the strong salty bacon aroma that was accompanied with a light caramel - Poppycock scent. Obviously, we were surprised. The initial salty-bitter taste slowly moved into a moderate acidic finish for an average duration. Medium bodied and slightly malty, it was rather creamy in body and left the palate dry.
Unfortunately, this offering did not fit well our the barleywine event. Upon tasting, we regretted purchasing an growler. I am interesting in knowing what provided the salty presence. We have enjoyed many other beers from Milly's, so there was something strange about this selection.
