White Hawk

Review - Mendocino Brewing Company's White Hawk Original IPA

"White Hawk Original IPA was launched in California in early 2002 to meet the demand for a unique India Pale Ale. Consumer response for White Hawk IPA exceeded expectations and it is fast gaining a loyal following both in 6 pack and on draft." -- Mendocino Brewing Company

Pours a light hazy yellow color with a good, two-finger head with a nice chunky frothy off-white appearance. Mostly diminishing head with fairly weak lacing. For an IPA, there's a surprisingly overpowering malt presence up front with a subtle hop presence hanging around in the background. Light bread malts with faint light pine hops provide the details in the nose. Initial taste is faintly bitter, moving to a moderately bitter finish with malty overtones. Medium bodied, it has a creamy mouthfeel with a slight dry texture and almost unnoticeable carbonation.
