Old Rustys Red

Review - Harpoon Brewery's 100 Barrel Series: Old Rustys Red Rye Ale

"Brewed by Harpoon's original head brewer, this rye beer features a bready, complex texture and a subtly spicy, rich flavor." -- Harpoon Brewery

Pours a cloudy medium amber color with a very healthy tan colored head with great retention. Settles out a clear dark amber color with some light carbonation, enough to hold up the solid frothy head that is leaving some wispy lacing on the glass in its wake. Aroma is of malty grains with Cheerios-like qualities with just a bit of sweet notes. Initial taste is slightly sweet but quickly turns to a moderately bitter finish with some very dry mouthfeel. Light to medium bodied, the dry mouthfeel pervades with a bitter finish that increases over time. Well-balanced, without an abundance of flavor.
