7th Annual Harpoon 5-Miler to Benefit the Angel Fund

7th Annual Harpoon 5-Miler to Benefit the Angel Fund
Saturday, June 7, 2008

Come support some of the Beerguys in the Harpoon 5-Miler. We’ve volunteered for the last 2 years. It’s a fun day. This year I will be joining Ryan in the race. [I will not be racing, this body wasn’t built for speed. Completing the race is good enough for me :)]

About the Race

The 2008 Harpoon 5-Miler takes off from the Harpoon Brewery on the South Boston waterfront on Saturday, June 7th. 1,500 runners and 200 volunteers will join Harpoon and the Angel Fund in the fight against ALS.

To date the Harpoon 5-Miler has raised over $144,000 toward research at the Day Laboratories at Mass General Hospital. Last year, the race sold out in 2 months! Sign up early to secure your bib number!

Where: New course in 2008 (TBD).
Cost: $35 includes race t-shirt, 2 beer tickets, food
When: Saturday, June 7, 2008. Race start time 10:00 am.

The post-race activities (food, entertainment, awards ceremony, cash bar, etc.) will conclude by 3:00pm. Rain or shine.

We Need 5-Miler Volunteers!

Don’t want to run 5 miles but want to be part of the fight against ALS…and part of the fun? In order to make this great event happen, we will need lots of volunteers. Volunteers are needed along the race course, at registration, and at various other points. Not that you need enticement to volunteer, of course, but all Harpoon Helps Volunteers will receive a Harpoon Helps Volunteer T-shirt and an invitation to the post-race party. There will be food, Harpoon beers, and Harpoon Draft Sodas at the post-party for you as well! Volunteers must be 21 years or older. We’ll need you at the brewery at 8:00 AM on the morning of the race (Saturday, June 7). If you’re interested, email us at harpoonhelps@harpoonbrewery.com!

About the Harpoon 5-Miler

The Harpoon 5-Miler is a 5-Mile road race that starts and ends at the Harpoon Brewery in South Boston. Proceeds benefit the Angel Fund for ALS Research. The course runs through the Boston Marine Industrial Park, down to South Boston with views of the harbor and back to Harpoon for a post race party with brewery-fresh beer, food from Bertucci’s and Kayem, live entertainment and much more. Family and Friends are welcome! In 2007, the race sold out at 1,500 runners in 3 weeks and raised over $46,000 for the Angel Fund.

About The Angel Fund

The Angel Fund is a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to support ALS research at the Day Neuromuscular Research Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. 100% of the funds raised by the Angel Fund go directly to ALS research.

ALS (or Lou Gherig’s disease) is a fatal neuro-degenerative disease characterized by muscle weakness and a progressive wasting and paralysis of the muscles. There is no known cure for ALS, and death usually results from respiratory failure in 2 to 5 years. For more info, please visit www.theangelfund.org.
