2Beerguys – Craft Beer Education Series

On Thursday, Ian and I hosted our 5th Craft beer Education class at Leary’s Fine wine and Liquors – Newburyport, Ma. It was a great success.

It was a pseudo Best in Store smörgåsbord of beer, featuring beers from the light to the dark end of the style spectrum. The class focused on the differences and similarities between the different styles, as well as a brief history of each style. The lineup was as follows:

– Hefeweizen – Harpoon UFO
– Magic Hat #9
– Clipper City Heavy Seas Uber Pils
– Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
– Founders Centennial IPA
– Great Divide Old Ruffian Barleywine
– Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale
– Anchor Porter

Date – Thursday, May 29th 6:30pm – 8:30 pm
Place – Leary’s Wine (Beer) Education Room
Cost – $20

The Barleywine did not go over too well, but may attendies were impressed with the Uber Pils, Centennial IPA and Anchor Porter. No one in the class had previously tried the entire selection, but appreciate the solid offerings from Magic Hat- Harpoon – Sierra Nevada – Great Divide – Dogfish Head. We shared some fun stories and love of craft beer — well maybe not love, but the fun experience of trying something new.

We have not set the schedule for the next couple of months, yet — But we are thinking about German Beer, Fruit Beer Comparison – Possibly a Blind Beer Challenge, and Organic/ plus Non-Alcoholic beer.
