Year in Beer tour

This past week Chis and Merideth Nelson from theBeerGeek.com were featured in a story on USAtoday.com. They have recently completed their ‘Year in Beer’ tour across the world, visiting breweries and beer events.

They were in our neck of the woods celebrating St. Patrick’s day in March. Their travels also included attending the GABF in Denver and Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany (which are on my bucket list). Since 1990, they have visited over 450 breweries all over the world.

We attended a major beer event or destination each month and you can see our complete schedule to the right. Our travels, which were chronicled on the website, took us to seven destinations in the United States and five in Europe.

The theme of our travels is always ‘the world becomes smaller and friendlier through beer’ and we made that message our focus for all of last year. With beer as a catalyst, we met people from various states and other countries, and through the experience we grew as people. We are definitely better for having embarked on this amazing adventure.

Enjoy!!

California couple finishes ‘Year in Beer’ tour

CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — A California couple’s “Year in Beer” is over.
Chris Nelson and his wife Merideth Canham-Nelson of Carmel Valley, Calif., set out to sample great beer destinations and festivals around the world in a year. They visited 90 breweries in 15 beer destinations in 2008, from Anchorage’s Great Alaska Beer & Barley Wine Festival in January to the Belgian Kerstbierfestival in December.

Other stops included Oregon, England, Germany, Colorado and San Diego.

Nelson and his wife hope to write a book about their beer travels. In the mean time, you can read about their experiences at yearinbeer.com or http://www.thebeergeek.com/.
