Cambridge Brewing Company Turns 20

CBC is turning 20! Come Celebrate!!

Friday and Saturday – May 8th and 9th, 2009

1989 was a year filled with amazing history. World wide protests, change, hope and turmoil all defined a year in which we witnessed colossal events such as the cold war end drawing nigh, as the Soviets pulled out of Afghanistan. We applauded as thousands marched with Desmond Tutu to end apartheid and students in China swarmed Tiananmen Square. Oh yes, 1989 was chock full of momentous occasions, who could forget the Beastie Boy’s release of the album “Paul’s Boutique”! The Ayatollah issued a $3 million dollar bounty for the head of Salmon Rushdie (author of the Satanic Verses), H.W. Bush was sworn in, Oliver North was getting in a bit of trouble, the Exxon Valdez had a “little” accident, and Seinfeld debuted on NBC.

There was one event however that topped them all.

In May of 1989, Phil “Brewdaddy” Bannatyne opened the CAMBRIDGE BREWING COMPANY in Kendall Square. The taps flowed, the birds sang, the flowers bloomed and all was right with the world. The rest, as they say, is history, but thankfully for all of us, history is alive and CBC is turning 20 and still going strong. The time for celebration has arrived and we invite you to share with us 20 years of friendships, memories, food, and of course delicious, handcrafted, fresh, unique, award winning and down right tasty BEER!

The festivities take place on Friday May 8th and Saturday May 9th from 5pm until closing. CBC Brewmaster Will Meyers will be featuring over 20 beers on tap for the event including 3 Anniversary beers – Sgt. Pepper (it was twenty years ago today), a saison with peppercorns, Reckoning, a 100% Brettanomyces (wild yeast) ale fermented and aged in pinot noir barrels, and the return of Benevolence, a mysterious beer brewed with raisins and dates and aged in American bourbon barrels. Also featured on tap will be many vintage beers saved for this special occasion. CBC Executive Chef David Drew is creating cuisine to pair with the anniversary beers alongside the regular menu, which features fresh, local and sustainably grown ingredients with an emphasis on creative food and beer pairings.

CBC’s outdoor patio will be transformed into a beer garden with additional tents to ensure the event goes on rain or shine. Saturday night features the Matt Berlin Duo on the Patio from 7 to 9 followed by raffles, prizes and general “hoopla”. At 10pm local music legends Jimmy Ryan (the Mandolin Maestro) and Hayride, with guitar giant Duke Levine take the stage, making this one party not to be missed!
