Karl Strauss Celebrates the Mother of All Beer Weeks

American Craft Beer Week 2010

San Diego, CA – May 2010 – Karl Strauss Brewing Company is proud to be participating in the 5th annual American Craft Beer Week (ACBW) May 17-23, 2010. The Brewers Association kicked off American Craft Beer Week in 2006 and the event is now the largest national effort highlighting American craft brewers. Karl Strauss is making special plans for the week with a series of guest casks, a Belgian IPA brewed just for the week, beer-to-go growler and seasonal beer specials, along with a “meet-the-brewer” night at Karl Strauss cask night.

Karl Strauss has been celebrating American Craft Beer Week since its inception to bring more awareness to locally produced beer.

“San Diego is known in beer circles as a great beer destination, but there are still a lot of people in our own back yard who don’t realize what amazing beer this city has to offer,” says Paul Segura, Karl Strauss Brewmaster. “By participating in events like American Craft Beer Week, we’re able to spread the word about craft beer and encourage people to try beers brewed in their own community.”

In the spirit of celebrating America’s craft brewers, for the first-time, Karl Strauss is excited to serve guest casks in their Brewery Restaurants, including beers from Ballast Point, Alesmith, The Bruery, Pizza Port, and Green Flash.

During the week, there will also be a limited Belgian IPA brewed specifically for the occasion. The American Craft Beer Week Belgian IPA will be available on tap at the company’s six Brewery Restaurants and beer bars across Southern California. A cask version will be available at Thursday Cask Night, where guests will be able to meet the brewer. Karl Strauss is offering $3.50 pints of their new Spring Seasonal, Pintail Pale Ale, and $9 growler specials on any beer-to-go throughout the week.

“American Craft Beer Week has become a cherished tradition, making this annual celebration a great chance to toast craft brewers and to celebrate the advanced beer culture here in the United States,” stated Julia Herz, a spokesperson for the Brewers Association.

The success of American Craft Beer Week has even spawned the creation of city-hosted versions of beer weeks, including San Diego Beer Week, November 5-14, 2010.
