Harpoon canning their summer plans

Introducing Harpoon IPA and Harpoon Summer Beer – in Cans
For the first time in the brewery’s 24-year history, Harpoon beer will be available in cans for the summer

BOSTON, MA (May 2010) – The Harpoon Brewery is pleased to announce that your backpack will be a little easier to carry on hiking trips this summer; introducing Harpoon IPA and Harpoon Summer Beer in cans. Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, the Harpoon Brewery will offer its flagship India Pale Ale and seasonal Summer Beer in 12-ounce aluminum cans. The beer, which was brewed at Harpoon’s Windsor, VT brewery, is being canned at FX Matt in Utica, NY today. The new cans will enable New England craft beer lovers to enjoy Harpoon beers during summer activities and at locales where glass bottles are not convenient.

Harpoon IPA was originally released as a seasonal beer in the summer of 1993 and became a year-round offering soon after due to its overwhelming popularity. Harpoon IPA has a floral aroma, medium body, and clean hop finish. This beer pairs well with roasted hot dogs, toasted marshmallows, and campfire songs.

Introduced in 1999, Harpoon Summer Beer is a German Kölsch-style ale. This summer seasonal beer is light and refreshing with a crisp, dry finish; perfect for post-hike refreshment, and a terrific gardening companion.

Harpoon IPA and Harpoon Summer Beer cans are 100% recyclable – pack them in, pack them out. The brewery will produce a limited number of 12-pack cases that will be available for the 2010 summer or as long as supplies last.

About the Harpoon Brewery:
The Harpoon Brewery was founded by beers lovers, Rich Doyle and Dan Kenary. In 1986 Harpoon was issued Brewing Permit #001 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, since it was the first brewery to brew commercially in the state after a dormant period of about 25 years. Harpoon’s line of craft beer features its award-winning IPA and UFO Hefeweizen beers, along with four special seasonal selections. In 2000 Harpoon purchased a second brewery in Windsor, VT, making Harpoon the 10th largest craft brewer in the US. Harpoon has since introduced two lines of limited edition beers, the 100 Barrel Series and the Leviathan Series, as well as the all-natural Harpoon Cider made from freshly pressed, local apples.
