Big boat, Big beers?

On Sunday, Sean and I ventured down to Newburyport’s annual Yankee Homecoming .  We did the typical walk around town, allowing our noses to waft in the smells of fried food and enjoying  the hustle and bustle of people, vendors and local music.

As we strolled down the boardwalk, we marveld at the many boats docked there.  Some were rather humble and others were far from it.  One boat in particular caught our eye (we couldn’t help but staring).  Named approprietly (something regarding going big), it had 4 or 5 decks and was brimming with all the luxuries one could ever want.  As we made it to the end of the yacht, we noticed people sitting around a table at the back enjoying some tasty beverages.  Sean of course, couldn’t help but try to figure out what kind of beer was being enjoyed.

Light “fizzy beers” were the choice of these seafarers… hmmmm.  I began to think about the life of someone who travels by boat in the summer and dissect why they would choose a certain type of beer over the other.  There are many possibilities…

1. They prefer the light beers….

2. They have never tried craft brews…

3. They work for the big guys and thus should drink their beers…

4. For them, boating is like camping and drinking light beers is roughing it…

5. Did they need to save money on their beer because the boat was so pricey…haha

6. They never even thought about it…just went to the store and bought what they usually buy…

The next thoughts that flooded my mind were “what beers did I drink before I found craft brews?”  What beers indeed.  And, “would you ever turn down a ice cold “fizzy” brew on a hot day?” Would I indeed.  And “If I owned a yacht what tasty beverages would I keep on board? hmmmm

My answer(s)? I want to keep my mind open to all beers.  Beer education is a passion of mine and I’m going to just continue to enjoy craft beer and spread the good word whenever possible.

Cheers to ALL the beer drinkers out there…WHATEVER brewery may be your favorite!!!

PEACE,
