July 2010 – The Great Lakes Water Conservation Conference brings craft brewers, cheese makers, and policy makers in water conservation, to discuss best practices for water saving, in Madison, WI, October 18-19, 2010.. Todd Ambs, the executive director of the national River Network (which is supported by breweries such as Anheuser-Busch, MillerCoors and Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.), is the keynote speaker at noon, Monday, October 18.

Monday, Oct. 18, will be filled with speakers and panels, and Tuesday, October 19, features a bus trip with tours of the Cedar Grove Cheese Co.’s biofiltration system, “the Living Machine” in Plain, WI, and the award-winning Capital Brewery in Middleton, WI.

Online registration is open at www.conserve-greatlakes.com – it is $195 until July 26; as of July 27, rate increases to $295 for full conference.

The agenda includes Stone Brewing Co.’s case history on wastewater treatment presented by Bill Sherwood; Brian Hunt of Moonlight Brewery on small pub water savings; panel with Jim Nicholas, US Geological Survey’s Water Science Center; brewmaster John Haggerty of New Holland Brewing Co., Grand Rapids, MI panel on effluent reduction, with Jason Fox, brewmaster, Custom BrewCrafters, and Fred Scheer, chairman of the Master Brewers Association’s Global Emerging Issues committee; and a panel with Karl Crave of Crave Bros. Cheese Co. and Brian Driscoll of the Wisconsin State Office of Energy Independence on waste-to-energy production.
