NARRAGANSETT SECURES TOP INDUSTRY RANKINGS AT GREAT INTERNATIONAL BEER FESTIVAL AND WORLD BEER CHAMPIONSHIP

Beloved New England Brew Bests Industry Giants Sam Adams & Sapporo to Garner Top Honors

PROVIDENCE, RI; November 2010 – Narragansett Beer is proud to announce its recent recognition and top rankings by two of the industry’s most well-regarded competitions, the 18th Annual Great International Beer Festival (GIBF) and the World Beer Championship.

Narragansett was awarded a gold medal for Best Lager at the GIBF held in Providence, RI on November 13. The annual festival attracted roughly 300 breweries and cideries from around the world, with entries judged in a blind-tasting format by 45 professional brewers, media and industry experts. Narragansett Lager took first place in its category against some of the industry’s top-rated lagers, including Sam Adams Boston Lager and Japan’s Sapporo Lager.

In early October, the Beverage Tasting Institute’s World Beer Championship – America’s oldest international beer competition – recognized Narragansett with three impressive medals. Judges awarded ‘Gansett Lager and Light the bronze medal in the Pale Lager and Reduced Calorie Lager categories with Narragansett Fest taking silver in the Vienna Marzen Lager category.

These recent wins mark another set of major accomplishments for Narragansett Beer, previously awarded the bronze medal for ‘Best Lager’ by the World Beer Cup in 2008 and #1 rated premium domestic lager by BeerAdvocate.com. Further, this year ‘Gansett celebrates its 120th anniversary as New England’s oldest – and currently fastest-growing – beer brand. Having produced and sold its millionth case of beer since its 2005 revival in March, the brand has experienced record growth in sales and revenue across the region. Looking ahead, Narragansett has preliminary plans for a groundbreaking on a new brewery in New England targeting sometime in late 2011.
