Why I selected Reindeer Fuel from Olde Main Brewing Company:

Chocolate and Beer. Two great tastes that taste great together. If you’re in Ames, IA and looking for the perfect desert beer, look no further than Reindeer Fuel. Available only on tap in the brewpub and select bars in the area, it was worth the 2 hour drive for this guy to get a pint (or 5). The chocolate isn’t subtle, it smacks you right in the taste buds the second it hits your mouth, and that’s okay. Add the fact that it is (one of my favorite styles) a porter, and you are in beer-heaven.

If you’re in central Iowa this time of year, and looking for a pint of pure awesomeness to warm the cockles…..heh heh……of your heart, look no further than Reindeer Fuel. Oh yeah, if you find it, give me a call and save me a seat, I’ll be there in two hours. Seriously, I have the free time, and that beer is worth it. The only downside is this is only available six weeks a year, which makes me want Christmas year round.

About Getting Tanked With Frank:
First off, thanks to our hosts 2Beerguys, and Reserve Series member Seacoastbevlab for inviting me to contribute. True honor for a guy that normally just reads beer news. Born and raised in Iowa, you can find me online at GettingTankedWithFrank.com, or on the Twitter at @fnbarrett or @gtwfrank. Most of the time, I don’t review beer other than saying, “this is awesome, try it if you like (fill in the blank style).” or “holy crap this is bad”, but Brian was cool enough to ask me, and here I am. Cheers! http://gettingtankedwithfrank.com/

About Olde Main Brewing Company:
Not long ago, late one evening (or was it morning?), an Iowa State biology graduate (Jeff “Puff” Irvin) and Ames bar owner (Scott “Griff” Griffen) sat — as many of us have — dreaming over beers. This was no far-fetched fantasy. After much discussion the dream came into focus. If Puff enrolled in the master brewer’s program at the University of California at Davis, Griff would have a brewpub waiting for him upon completion of his studies. The deal was sealed that night (or morning?) with a cheers and a handshake.

Shortly thereafter, Puff emerged from the wilds of California with a degree, a tan and some real nerdy beer science knowledge. True to his word, Griff made good on his pledge to provide the brewpub. He purchased an old bicycle shop on Main Street in downtown Ames and immediately hired Puff as his head brewer. The dream became reality on Oct. 4, 2004, when Olde Main Brewing Company & Restaurant opened its doors to the public. http://www.oldemainbrewing.com/
