PRESS RELEASE – The Wildeman Cometh: Flying Dog Releasing New Beer Wildeman Farmhouse IPA

The Wildeman Cometh: Flying Dog Releasing New Beer Wildeman Farmhouse IPA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 24, 2012

“His axe is stained with the blood of a thousand adversaries. We fall in behind him as he leads us into darkness. He turns his gaze on us. ‘Tentanda via est!’ The way must be tried. Wildeman has arrived.”

And so begins the twisted tale that is Flying Dog Brewery’s latest release, Wildeman Farmhouse IPA.

A concept originally brewed for the 25th anniversary of Amsterdam’s In de Wildeman, Flying Dog is now unleashing the beer on the U.S. as simply Wildeman.

A teaser for Wildeman was launched January 13 (on Friday the 13th, no less) with a one-minute video on Flying Dog’s YouTube channel.

“Here, courtesy of Flying Dog Brewery, is the most inexplicable commercial for a new-beer release that you may ever see,” Rebecca Cullers wrote in AdWeek’s “AdFreak” blog. “If it captures the essence of the brew, called Wildeman, then this is a concoction Made from wolf blood and steampunk wings.”

The beer – which Cullers predicts, “tastes like insanity” – is unfiltered and hazy gold in color. Wildeman begins with notes of citrus and spice on the nose, followed by potent citrus hop flavor. The bitterness is balanced by light malt highlights and finishes dry, crisp, and with a slight hint of acidity.

“We’re building out our portfolio, established by Raging Bitch Belgian-Style IPA, of hop-forward IPAs fermented with unique yeast strains,” Brewmaster Matt Brophy said. “With Wildeman, we used a Saison yeast and were incredibly pleased with the hoppy and funky balance it produced.”

Speaking of Raging Bitch, Wildeman is the first new year-round release from Flying Dog since the Belgian-Style IPA took the U.S. by storm.

The world premiere of Wildeman Farmhouse IPA was at Victoria Gastro Pub in Columbia, Maryland on Wednesday, January 18. The beer will hit shelves in the mid-Atlantic by January 30.
